Lockdown is the secure-storage brand of American Outdoor Brands, made by AOB Products Company — that is how the foot of its catalogues is signed. It makes no guns and no ammunition, and it does not make the safe either: it makes what closes it and what goes inside. There is no epic to tell about the house and they do not tell one either: no founding year, no corporate history. The 2024 catalogue opens with a page of values and by the next it is already on product.

A good part of that catalogue is not about theft but about humidity. The manufacturer says it itself on its hygrometer sheet: excess humidity inside a safe produces rapid corrosion and pitting on metal surfaces. Hence the three ways of attacking it that it sells. Silica gel, which absorbs water from the air, changes colour as it saturates and regenerates in the home oven: a 750 g canister covers up to 57 cubic feet, which is 1.6 m³. The hygrometer, which is what says whether it is needed and when. And the silicone gun socks, which are the last layer: treated polyester that absorbs no moisture, for the gun that will sit still for months.

The other half is access and order. Trigger locks with a bolt passing through the trigger guard and rubber pads so the gun is not marked; steel boxes with combination closure for handguns; and, inside the safe, cradle racks for pistols, door hangers, a drawer that hangs under the shelf and magazine racks. These products lock, monitor humidity and organise the cabinet, so its contents can be seen and one item removed without unhooking the others.

Of what crosses customs to get here, the better half is humidity control and safe organisation. And the Puck, which tells your phone that the door has opened and how the humidity is doing inside, runs on an app the manufacturer declares free of fees and subscriptions.
