History

The surname comes under licence

Horace Smith and Daniel B. Wesson formed a partnership in Norwich, Connecticut, in 1852; the company that survives today was signed into being in Springfield four years later. It produced a surname associated in Spain with a revolver.

This page is not about that. What we distribute from Smith & Wesson is its cutlery and shooting accessories, not its firearms. The difference is corporate, not commercial: the final page of the four catalogues we use —2024 and 2023 cutlery, and 2024 and 2023 accessories— states that “Smith & Wesson®, M&P® and M2.0® are registered trademarks of Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc. used under licence”. The maker and publisher is American Outdoor Brands, which repeats the same note on its brand page.

The date when that surname reached a knife is known. Taylor Brands, founded in 1975 and already the cutlery licensee, was bought in July 2016 by Battenfeld Technologies —then Smith & Wesson’s own accessories division— for 85 million dollars. In the August 2020 separation, Smith & Wesson Brands kept the firearms and American Outdoor Brands kept the accessories, cutlery and licence. That is why S&W knives now come from the same company as Schrade, Old Timer, Caldwell and Wheeler, which we also distribute.

What reaches Spain is pocket knives —Extreme Ops®, Border Guard®, 1st Response®, Black Ops® and 24/7®—, fixed-blade knives, a throwing set, pocket sharpener, multi-tool, Defender cases, range bag and eyewear from the accessories line.
